The Rush Companies has new details on its senior housing development in Tacoma’s Stadium District.

In addition to its excellent Stadium District location, the development site is conveniently located within minutes of Downtown Tacoma, Old Town, and the Proctor Commercial District. Until recently, the Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church building (TBPC) was situated on the 35,000sf site. The building was originally constructed in 1922 as a Scottish Rite Temple, but was occupied by the TBPC for 79 years, from 1937 until May 2016, when an electrical fire severely damaged the building. Following the fire, the building sat vacant until The Rush Companies purchased it in September 2017 and then demolished it in November 2017, to make way for the new senior housing development.

The new project will feature 120 – 156 apartments, on six residential levels with a mix of Independent, Assisted Living and Memory Care apartments. The plans will also include a rooftop garden, indoor and outdoor dining areas, outdoor patios, common areas and one-level of underground parking. The location provides expansive territorial views and outstanding views of Commencement Bay.

The Rush Companies President, Matt Smith, said the, “demand for senior housing in the primary market area and the proximity to retail and medical are the driving factors for building this project.” The project site is directly across the street from Wright Park (Tacoma’s “Central Park”), and most living needs, medical, restaurants, retail and churches, are within walking distance. Additionally, the Link Light Rail extension (see link below) to the Stadium District is anticipated to be completed in 2022. It will provide quick, easy access to Downtown and the Tacoma Dome Station Transit Center, connecting residents and their families to the greater Puget Sound region via AmTrak, Sound Transit buses and the Seattle Sounder commuter train.

The project is already in the concept design phase and will likely break ground early 2019. It could open the second half of 2020 at the earliest.

In addition to the Stadium project, The Rush Companies has also built the Lacey Senior Housing project, Revel Lacey, that is set to be completed in June 2018. Rush will also be breaking ground on its Fairwood Senior Housing development in Renton this spring.
